| ICT
can and does transform teaching and learning for students
with severe and complex learning difficulties. The key to
making this happen is creativity; thinking beyond the instructions
that came with the software package, beyond the schemes of
work and beyond your pupil's horizons.
Some
teachers argue that without access to the latest technology,
they are unable to use ICT effectively. I don't believe that's
true. Rather than buy shelves full of software, choose two
or three core software titles and learn to use them well.
Search the Web, it's a fantastic resource for ideas and advice
and a massive storehouse of material to support any lesson.
In
a recent interview, Carl Sherlock, a teacher from Llanfoist
Primary School in Abergavenny said "In schools of the
future, the acronym ICT should represent Inclusive, Creative
Teaching."
I
believe Carl's future is already here. ICT provides the tools
to give EVERY child access to communication, learning and
leisure. In the hands of a creative teacher it can revolutionize
the way we deliver our lessons, wholly inclusive it gives
every child, every opportunity, to take part in everything!
