Retell the story

Use this word mat to help prompt you...can you name or sign all of the main parts of the story, can you retell the story?

Role play

Could you gather some things from the story (as above) and act it out together?

Sensory Play with Porridge Oats

You don't need to have a tuff tray, a baking tray or tub will work just as well, add some oats, spoons, different sized bowls and some soft toys to explore the porridge oats.

Could you use language such as full, empty, all gone, more and less to describe the bowls of porridge?

Mark Making

Perhaps you could make some marks into the oats? use your finger to draw shapes, letters or numbers.

Some of you might even be able to have a go at writing letters from your name or other familiar words!

Cereal Sensory Play

why don't you explore some different cereals too...

Introduce toy hammers or rolling pins to 'smash' the cereal.

Independence

This week's story focus gives a great opportunity for practising independence skills.

Can your child help to make breakfast? find the right number of bowls and spoons,  pour the cereal or perhaps have a go at making their own bed?

We would really like to see photographs or hear about ways your child has practised their independence skills this week.

Play Dough

Why don't you try out this oatmeal play dough recipe this week, you could even add some vanilla essence or honey to make it even more sensory.

How to make:

You will need:

  • 2 cups uncooked oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup flour

Combine the ingredients together, easy as that!

Perhaps you could try out the Play Dough exercises again once you have made it.
